The 5 ElementsIn traditional Chinese Philosophy, it is believed the 5 Elements--Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are the basic building blocks of all things, living or inert. These 5 Elements contain different traits. Wood is creative and youth. Fire is aggressive. Earth all things from nature. Metal symbolizes the harvest and bounty. 2 more things "of note" with the Elements. They have what's called a "Constructive" and a "Destructive" cycle. Constructive CycleWood (burns to create)--Fire (which creates ash to create)--Earth (which is used to create)--Metal (which "somehow" creates)--Water (which feeds the ground to create)--Wood again.Wood->Fire->Earth->Metal->Water->Wood (again)----and the cycle keeps on going!! Destructive CycleWater (destroys)--Fire (which melts)--Metal (which chops)--Wood (which uses up and destroys)--Earth (which destroys)--Water againWater->Fire->Metal->Wood->Earth->Water (again)----and the cycle keeps on going!!!!

It is believed that within all things living these 5 Elements need to be "in balance" with one another. This will result in a happy, healthy and harmonious exsistence.
It's when the 5 Elements become "out of balance" that bad things start to befall the specific person. Example: To much Fire within a person makes him (or her) aggressive, hardheaded and difficult. How does this tie into Chinese Astrology? Your Elemental Balance is mapped through the Year, Month, Day and Hour of your birth. A resulting numerical score is achieved for each of the 5 Elements. Homogeneous scores indicate a balanced Elemental Profile, and a happy, carefree and lucky life :)
